24-hour trading platforms compared

Three very different product families all market themselves as “24-hour trading.” Here is what each one really covers, and where each one stops.

Brokers with overnight sessions (24/5)

Several U.S. brokers now offer overnight trading in real shares and ETFs on weeknights, routed to overnight venues. You own the actual security and your existing account works. The limits: weeknights only, a restricted symbol list, thinner books than the regular session — and nothing on Saturday or Sunday.

Futures platforms (23/5)

CME equity index futures trade nearly around the clock on weekdays and are the institutional reference for overnight index moves. They cover indices, not single stocks, close for the weekend, and require a futures-approved account.

Stock perpetual venues (24/7)

Crypto-native exchanges list perpetual contracts on single stocks, metals, oil and indices that trade every hour of the week. This is the only product family with a live Saturday price for a specific stock. You trade price exposure, not shares, with stablecoin collateral and optional leverage.

This site quotes Hyperliquid, where the contracts trade from a self-custodied wallet with no account application. Check your own jurisdiction’s rules before trading anywhere.

Which one fits your situation

  • Want to own shares and can wait for a weeknight: a broker overnight session.
  • Trading broad index direction on weeknights: futures.
  • Need to act on a specific stock right now, on a weekend: a stock perpetual is the only live market.
