Methodology

How we label and validate market data

This methodology explains how Weekend Stock Market handles official schedules, venue-specific perpetual data, timestamps, charts, and comparisons. Every additional asset and instrument must pass the same mapping and data-quality checks before its values are shown.

Official-market status

The open-or-closed answer is calculated on the server from reviewed 2026 Nasdaq and NYSE regular-session calendars in America/New_York time. The schedule includes the listed holidays and reviewed early closes in the current calendar file.

This is a schedule calculation, not a live exchange-operations feed. It cannot detect an unscheduled halt, emergency closure, or exchange-system incident. The page identifies that limit and links to the primary calendar sources.

Actual shares and derivatives are different layers

An official security has an issuer, exchange, ticker, trading currency, and exchange calendar. A stock-linked perpetual is a separate contract listed by a third-party venue. We map the reference deliberately, but mapping does not turn the contract into a share.

The current site does not publish an authorized live cash-equity quote. When the cash market is open, the interface says that a live cash quote is not shown. When it is closed, a separate venue derivative may still update.

Headline price and supporting fields

The large venue value is the instrument mark price. Best bid, best ask, oracle or index value, funding, open interest, and last trade are supporting fields. A percentage move and its headline price must use the same venue, instrument, price type, and baseline.

A missing, zero, malformed, future-dated, stale, crossed-book, or mapping-invalid value is withheld. It is not replaced with zero and is not borrowed from another venue.

Timestamps and freshness

A displayed mark carries an absolute UTC time. Depending on the upstream endpoint, that may be a venue event time or the time our server observed the value; the interface and source adapter must not imply greater precision than the source provides.

Collector heartbeat, source receipt, mark age, book age, last-trade age, and candle age are evaluated separately. Thin trading does not automatically mean that the source connection is down. Stale data is labeled and removed from live rankings.

Charts stay source-specific

A candle series contains one exact venue instrument and one interval. Derivative history is not joined to official share history as if it were one continuous market.

The backend collects and stores a bounded amount of source-specific history. Invalid bars, impossible OHLC relationships, future timestamps, gaps that cannot be explained, or a failed current mapping cause the series to be withheld or downgraded rather than repaired silently.

Comparisons require compatible units

A derivative-to-official-close gap is shown only when the reference security, currency, contract multiplier, corporate-action state, and any ADS ratio or foreign-exchange conversion are verified. Each conversion needs a named source and timestamp.

If those conditions are not met, the comparison is unavailable. This is especially important for foreign listings, depositary receipts, stock splits, symbol changes, and contracts whose reference definition changes.

Ranking eligibility

A movers list is an observation tool, not a recommendation list. An instrument must have a verified mapping, usable mark, stated baseline, acceptable freshness, and the required liquidity checks before it can appear.

An unavailable instrument remains in the broader coverage directory when useful, but it cannot be ranked as a winner or loser. A venue outage must not make another venue appear to cover more of the market than it actually does.

Method changes and corrections

A material change to the price type, baseline, mapping, freshness rule, or calendar logic should be dated and explained. Historical articles preserve the quote snapshot and method used when they were published rather than silently substituting a new live value.

Suspected mapping or calculation errors can be reported to contact@weekendstockmarket.com. Confirmed material errors follow the corrections policy.
